How will we respond?

  On Wednesday, an event took place that has been rather polarizing, Charlie Kirk was murdered!   I have thought long and hard about what to write. On 9/11 I posted my thoughts on sinfulness - mine and the sinfulness of every single person who has, who is, of whoever will inhabit human flesh. That sinfulness is often manifested in vile evil. And I begged all to pray The Litany.  It is an ancient prayer of The Church and it is easy to see why. (see it at the end of this post) How do those who disagree respond?   I am going to state what I believe. God created man in His image, God’s own breath (spirit) was breathed into man to make him a living soul. That image pointed forward to Him who is God in human flesh - Jesus, God’s Christ - the One in whose image Adam was created. Exaudi Wednesday - Devotion in Exile

Lection for Wednesday of Exaudi  Numbers 16:23-42       Luke 19:29-48 Jesus comes to Jerusalem, and looking over the city, he weeps saying, “If you had known in this day, even you, the things which make for peace! But now they have been hidden from your eyes. For the days will come upon you when your enemies will throw up a barricade against you, and surround you and hem you in on every side, and they will level you to the ground and your children within you, and they will not leave in you one stone upon another, because you did not recognize the time of your visitation.” (vv.42-44) Jesus is speaking on two sorts of levels at the same time.  First, He is prophesying the total destruction of Jerusalem – this was a physical reality that took place in 70 AD.  It took place because the Jews rejected Jesus, and by so doing, rejected the very God of their forefathers. What's in your hand, Pastor?

I was out fishing the other day and enjoying a fine cigar. While there, I chanced to run into a layman from another LCMS congregation. There is a lot of room on a pier when you're fishing, but you're still close enough to others to carry on a conversation. Soon we'd struck up a conversation were talking about the normal pier-fishing things; catching any? seen any? think they'll turn on today? what you using to entice them? We even got around to introducing ourselves to each other. And, as conversations tend to go, inevitably the question was asked, "What do you do?" To which I responded, "I am a pastor, a Lutheran pastor." It was then that we exchanged some more information, he also being Lutheran - and a Missouri Synod Lutheran at that. Of course this piqued our interest and heightened our connection. Next we discussed where we were living and to what parishes were we connected.
