Cantate Tuesday - Devotion in Exile

Lection for Cantate Tuesday
Leviticus 22:1-22      Luke 12:13-34

What is going to be the new plan for how to be “safer-at-home,” and still open up the businesses so that life can return to some semblance of order? What is going on with my 401K? Where will I get my haircut? Will I still be able to retire in twelve years?

Jesus said to His disciples, “For this reason I say to you, do not worry about your life, as to what you will eat; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. 23 For life is more than food, and the body more than clothing. 24 Consider the ravens, for they neither sow nor reap; they have no storeroom nor barn, and yet God feeds them; how much more valuable you are than the birds! 25 And which of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life’s span? 26 If then you cannot do even a very little thing, why do you worry about other matters? 27 Consider the lilies, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; but I tell you, not even Solomon in all his glory clothed himself like one of these. 28 But if God so clothes the grass in the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, how much more will He clothe you? You men of little faith! 29 And do not seek what you will eat and what you will drink, and do not keep worrying. 30 For all these things the nations of the world eagerly seek; but your Father knows that you need these things. 31 But seek His kingdom, and these things will be added to you. 32 Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has chosen gladly to give you the kingdom.

I wish my son would be able to have the graduation and celebration he deserves, he’s worked so hard! I wish my daughter could have the celebration that was planned for the day of her confirmation! Will we be able to afford food as the prices keep rising?

I am afraid, what if Trump gets re-elected? I am afraid, what if Biden gets elected? The constant cost of repairs for my car is killing me, and since I am not getting the same hours at work, I cannot afford to replace it. What’s going to happen, I keep praying for Aunt Helga, but it looks like she isn’t going to go into remission?

Your Father has chosen to give you an eternal kingdom, it is your inheritance as one of His children, made to be so in the waters of baptism. It is yours for He feeds and nourishes you in the true faith unto life everlasting in His kingdom. Thanks be to God.

Let us pray:      Almighty God, You appoint rulers and officials for the sake of order and peace. Bless those whom You have placed in authority over us at the federal, state and local levels. Give to them the desire to serve with integrity and honor, and to work for the benefit of all. Protect them, give them health, and direct them wisely in their response to the ongoing pandemic. Bless us with courage to face each new day, knowing that all things are in the care and keeping of Your gracious hand, even as You continually prepare us for the kingdom that is ours as Your gracious gift. Amen.
